SOUTHERN FRIED THURSDAY

Guest Blog from BTUT!  Thanks!  Had fun last night...Go Ian!

Southern sayings are those wonderful similes, metaphors, or other expressions that are use on a regular basis during conversations in The South. We don't even bat an eye when they are used. It's second nature to know how to properly respond to these sayings. Whether you are travelling to the south or just wanting to brush up on your southern vernacular, these jewels will guide you through some of the most common conversations. But before engaging in a conversation with a true southerner, PLEASE read, understand, and practice these sayings. Improper usage could result in bodily harm as some have the totally opposite meaning depending on the context in which it is used!

·         Southern Saying: Butter my biscuit

o   Translation: Isn't that something!

o   Usage: Well butter my biscuit!

·         Southern Saying: Speckled pup in a red wagon

o   Translation: Reference to being cute or precious.

o   Usage: That baby's cuter than a speckled pup in a red wagon.

·         Southern Saying: Two goats in a pepper patch.

o   Translation: That's some hot stuff.

o   Usage: It's hotter out here than two goats in a pepper patch.

 ·         Southern Saying: Rode hard and put up wet.

o   Translation: Looking rough

o   Usage: Man, you look like you been rode hard and put up wet.

·         Southern Saying: Heebie jeebies

o   Translation: A condition similar to the chills.

o   Usage: That fellow gives me the heebie jeebies.

·         Southern Saying: Above your raisin'

o   Translation: Acting as a snob acts.

o   Usage: Little Miss Priss is shore above her raisin'.

 ·         Southern Saying: I declare.

o   Translation: I did not know that or that is surprising or it can merely be used when there is really nothing else to say.

o   Usage: I declare!

·         Southern Saying: In a coon's age.

o   Translation: A really long time.

o   Usage: I ain't seen nothin' like that in a coon's age.

MCKAYLA IS NOT IMPRESSED

Not sure if you saw McKayla win the silver medal on the vault during the Olympics, but she was more than "Not Impressed."  The world has gone viral photo shopping her disgusted look in all kinds of situations!  Here are some pretty funny ones...

Pulp Fiction....Not Impressed!

Back to the Future...Does not rock her world.

Jersey Shore Boys...She must like blonds.

Dark Night Rises...did not get a rise out of her.

I will leave you to make your own caption.

And, one of my favorites....check out old George!

You can view these and more at mckaylaisnotimpressed.tumblr.com.

They are adding more daily!

SOUTHERN FRIED THURSDAY

Thanks BTut for the guest blog!

From The Southern Lady Cooks blog

I am from the South where...

Everyone pulls over to let a funeral procession pass.
We don't have fireflies, we got lightnin' bugs.
"Taters" are mandatory while shoes are not.
"Y'all" is a proper noun.
"Ain't" is a word.
Chicken is fried.
Biscuits come with gravy.
Sweet tea is the house wine.
Shopping carts are "buggies."
You never disrespect your elders.
We talk to strangers.
We wave a lot.
We love pearls, porches and peanuts, and "Blessin' hearts."

Also, shout out to late night carport friends!  Love, Love, Love!
